Achieve Lasting, Positive Change
By Sarah Brown
What do Tiger Woods, Albert Einstein, Ellen DeGeneres, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Shaquille O’Neal, and Princess Diana all have in common? Each one of them has used hypnosis or hypnotherapy to overcome bad habits or challenges, to make changes to improve their quality of life, or to achieve great success. Over the years, Lincoln Hypnosis Center has helped thousands of local clients do exactly the same thing. Smoking cessation, stress relief, and weight loss are all attainable with the assistance of hypnosis from owners and therapists Jeff and Devan Martin.
Hypnosis is a relaxed state of consciousness. As a form of treatment, hypnosis has developed over the last two centuries into the clinically applicable form available at Lincoln Hypnosis Center today. Jeff and Devan have a combined experience of over 40 years within their field, and they have helped thousands of people.
Some people shy away from hypnosis treatment because they’re afraid of losing control. “One of the biggest misconceptions people have about hypnosis is that we, the hypnotists, are controlling clients while they’re hypnotized,” notes Devan. “That’s just not possible. The client is always in control and fully aware of everything going on the entire time.” Hypnosis is not mind control by a hypnotist. Rather, it is a method of training the mind to create automatic reactions that will eliminate the negative habits or thought patterns that keep us stuck in unhealthy cycles of undesirable behavior. Through hypnosis, a therapist can help clients identify the responses or outcomes they have unconsciously programmed to any number of stimuli. Once these automatic responses have been identified, they can be adjusted—this is done with guided imagery and visualization.
Who is hypnosis for? “Hypnosis is for anyone who wants to make a change,” Jeff says. Quite often, people coming to hypnosis to quit smoking or lose a lot of weight are doing so as a last resort, and Jeff reports that many of their clients are delighted to finally achieve success. “Hypnosis works,” he says. “It ends up being the only thing that has ever worked for many of the clients we have—and it works faster, easier, and more economically than anything else they tried over the years.”
Jackie Adams, one of Jeff’s current clients, decided to finally try hypnosis to quit smoking. “I’m actually amazed,” she shares. “I really didn’t think it would work because I’d already tried so many things. But after just one session, I don’t even want to pick my cigarettes up. Cigarettes are suddenly ‘icky’ to me! I didn’t think it would work that quickly. I’m more relaxed, and even my dogs are happier, because I’m paying more attention to them at home instead of smoking.”
Clients at Lincoln Hypnosis Center begin their journey to personal success with a complimentary meeting to communicate the problems they’re facing and outline their treatment goals. At this introductory meeting, Jeff performs a free hypnosis screening to determine whether hypnosis is likely to be an effective treatment option for the client. “We’re 100 percent honest. If we determine that hypnosis is not right for you, for whatever reason, we’ll tell you that up front,” he states.
Once individuals pass the initial screening and become clients, they start their treatment program. All the programs offered at Lincoln Hypnosis Center were designed using proven scientific principles as well as extensive study and trial. Clients seeking smoking cessation or weight loss as their goal embark with their therapist on an organized, step-by-step, individually-customizable curriculum. This program combines in-office hypnotherapy sessions with “homework” to be engaged in outside of the clinical setting as therapy reinforcement. Every client is taught self-hypnosis to lessen the likelihood of regressing or relapsing into problem behaviors.
The commitment that clients receive from Lincoln Hypnosis Center is what makes it truly stand apart from other treatment programs. If clients feel that they’re slipping back into old, undesirable habits after they complete the program, Jeff and Devan guarantee to offer reinforcement sessions of their hypnosis services at no additional charge. Lincoln Hypnosis Center also has a policy of capping their fees for those participating in their treatment programs. “We evaluate your problem and then assess a fee,” Jeff explains. “Once the fee is paid, there are absolutely no more additional session charges. We stay with the problem until you are happy.”
