Hello to all of you—readers of Women’s Edition. My name is Janet Van deWalle, and I am the National Publisher of Women’s Edition, Inc. Tammy Alverson, the Editor of the Northwest Denver Women’s Edition for the last number of years, has moved on to other opportunities. We wish her the best of luck.

My husband, Jim, and I began Women’s Edition in Omaha, NE over 23 years ago. The mission statement was very clear—we wanted to give the small to medium sized business the opportunity to advertise consistently at a reasonable cost. We also were committed to providing a positive, uplifting experience for our readers. We want you to feel better after reading the magazine then you did before you picked us up!

Since then, we have expanded into 9 other areas of the country—four of them here in Colorado. Out of those four, three of them are right here in the Denver market and our fourth is in the Colorado Springs area. I’ve been traveling to Denver since January of 2001—when we launched our first Colorado Women’s Edition in South Metro Denver. (This month, we celebrate our 100th issue in South Metro Denver!)

Our Northwest Denver Women’s Edition launched in April of 2002 and West Denver and Colorado Springs joined the ranks in April of 2004.

Since I started working on Women’s Edition 23 years ago, I’ve experienced lots of changes. My daughter, Carissa, who was seven when we started the magazine, is now 30 years old—and works at the the magazine. She is married and has a beautiful 4-year-old daughter, Savannah. My son, Adam, who is now 18, has graduated high school. Adam also works part-time at Women’s Edition.

The toughest challenge I have faced came this past December when Jim, my husband and the cofounder of Women’s Edition, passed away. Jim had received a heart transplant in 1995. We had great bonus time up until the time he died. He is missed by all who knew him. Women’s Edition continues on, however. Jim and I discussed the magazine every night for 23 years. I know that he wants us all to continue and to grow.

Women’s Edition is looking for two full-time Advertising Sales Account Executives. These are entry level positions. Responsibilities will mainly consist of contacting businesses in the Northwest Denver area, including Westminster, Thornton, Northglenn, Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette, Boulder, Erie, and Longmont to talk with people about advertising.
