Why: Too many women die each year because they are unaware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer. Together, we can bring a voice to this silent killer to help save lives through the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign. In addition to a heart healthy meal with keynote speaker Liz Nead, the luncheon includes a “purse-inality” silent auction, interactive health exhibits, educational breakout sessions, and personal stories from heart disease and stroke survivors and women who have embraced lifestyle change.

The Lupus Foundation of America-Iowa Chapter is holding its 4th Annual Walk for Lupus Now on September 25, 2010 at Merle Hay Mall, Des Moines. The goal of our walk is to raise awareness and money to support our programs and research toward find a cure for lupus.

Check in will begin at 8:00 am and there will be a short program at 9 am and then the walkers will choose between a 1 or 2 mile path.

Where: West terrace of the State Capital building
When: Saturday, June 19, activities begin at 8 a.m., the Start! Heart Walk begins at 9 a.m.
Why: Heart disease and stroke are our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. The Start! Heart Walk is a fun and inspirational event that educates the public on risk factors and prevention, while raising funds for lifesaving research and educational programs of the American Heart Association. The event also pays tribute to survivors and those we have lost to cardiovascular disease.
