Hello everyone, and welcome to our February issue. I love it when we get to the month of February because it means that we are that much closer to spring and winter is almost over. As you can probably tell, I’m not a big fan of winter. So far, I’m grateful that we are having a pretty mild winter season. The older I get, the less I enjoy the cold snowy months and the more I look forward to the hot days of summer.

February is always a very special month for the Kahler household. In addition to celebrating Valentine’s Day with my husband, we also have a couple of very important birthdays that we celebrate this month. Our son, Donovan, will turn 35 at the end of February and his daughter, our granddaughter, will celebrate her 6th birthday.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day is always such fun. I love the fact that we have one day set aside each year just for saying “I love you!” I think when you are younger, Valentine’s Day is a much more elaborate affair—as it should be. When my husband, Ken, and I were younger, we used to make a much bigger deal out of Valentine’s Day. Now that we have shared 36 Valentine’s Days together, having a date night at a favorite restaurant and sharing a great bottle of wine seems to be more our speed. Toss in some really great conversation and a few “I love you’s,” and we have the perfect evening. The two of us always manage to have a marvelous time together.

It’s really hard to believe that our son is turning 35 this year and that our granddaughter, Zylie, is turning 6 years old already. Since their birthdays are only three days apart, they always have a shared birthday party. Donovan, who is extremely creative, always bakes and decorates these elaborate birthday cakes. I am always excited to see what he will create. They are always so darn cute, and they match whatever theme his daughters have chosen. Unless Zylie changes her mind, the last I heard is that she wants an Ariel birthday theme this year.

Donovan has a culinary degree, so he always has a table laden with the most amazing food. His talent in the kitchen is extraordinary. When Donovan cooks, nobody misses the party! So I’d like to wish my son and granddaughter a very happy birthday! I love you both so much!

Until next month, I hope you all have a great February and a fabulous Valentine’s Day.
