Congratulations
are in order this month as Women’s Edition celebrates our Eighth
Anniversary. I’ve been involved with this fantastic magazine for
half of our eight years and what a great ride this is! I am living my
passion and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I look forward to going to work each
day because everyone I work with is positive and helpful—just like
the magazine. I have met so many interesting people and learned about
their businesses and their background.
We appreciate you, our readers, for picking up a copy of Women’s Edition
every month—and appreciate that you tell our advertisers you learned about
them through our magazine. A big thank you to all our advertisers—without
your support we would not survive. Thanks to the staff in Omaha, our freelance
writers, and our route drivers who deliver the magazine to over 600 businesses
in the Corridor.
I couldn’t have done any of this without the support of my best friend
and biggest fan, my husband Frank, who supports me in this business adventure
and reminds me to keep a sense of humor.
May 11th is Mother’s Day and my mother-in-law has invited me to the Salvation
Army’s mother/daughter banquet again this year. We’ll celebrate the
day with dinner at our house, since that seems to be her favorite place to eat.
Frank is an excellent cook and always includes a “secret ingredient” in
his dishes.
I hope each of you moms have a very special day and take some time to take care
of yourself. I also hope that all of you “kids” take some time to
appreciate your moms on this special day.
March Madness is finally over! It seems as though it was nearly as long as this
winter has been, starting in February and ending in April. We have entered that
confusing time in the sports world with basketball, baseball, and spring football
games.
Frank and our friend Ron have been planning our tailgating for the Hawkeye Football
Spring Game this weekend. Sounds as if they have everything covered from brats
to hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps! It’s always lots of fun and
gives us just enough Hawkeye football to hold us over to the fall.
Frank and I walked the yard to see what shape it was in after the harsh winter.
It’s exciting to see the hyacinths peeking up and budding, and several
of our bushes are budding out. Frank applied the first lawn treatment and we’ll
continue to work on the Creeping Charlie.
We’ve been having intermittent problems with our garage door opener, so
I called for service. Of course, it worked just fine when the technician was
there. It is 16 years old and he suggested we keep using it until it quit, which
was the next day. He told us the only door that might get as much use as the
garage door is the bathroom door! We were thankful they were able to replace
it quickly. Opening it by hand wasn’t all that bad, but it wouldn’t
stay open, so we had to prop it open to get in and out of the garage. It’s
amazing how spoiled we have gotten with our openers.
Our neighbor of 15 years is moving to Ft. Lauderdale this week. Her husband lost
his battle with cancer in March, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a
mastectomy and half of her chemo, and her doctor has scheduled the balance of
treatments for her in Ft. Lauderdale. We’ll miss her and her knowledge
of flowers and plants. They have a beautiful yard filled with many beautiful
plants and a pond. They’ve even had ducks who chose to move in their backyard
to raise their family! Their cat Sylvester liked to exit through the cat door,
jump their fence, and lay in our yard. Unfortunately, they lost him this winter
to cancer. Jan has an amazing positive attitude in spite of all that has gone
on in her life in the past few months. We wish her well in sunny Florida.
